The Bar
May 31, 2001

The past couple of weeks have see things slow down, but we finished up several small things. Mostly Steve did some touch-up painting and worked on the bar. The bar is complete and painted with the brass sink installed. It turned out very nice. Some additional photos follow:

We also added thresholds underneath the theater doors to better seal off the theater for sound, and we gave the entire basement a good cleaning to try to get rid of the dust before the carpet goes in.
I cleaned up the wiring closet and got most of the cables sorted out.
We finally figured out what carpet we wanted and how it would be installed, so the carpet is being installed today throughout the basement. The fabric for the theater is scheduled to begin Monday.
I picked up the PC I had built for the theater (by PC Source in Norcross, GA) and got it working with my current projector (a GE Imager 410 / NEC GP-3000). The PC Source people were very accommodating in using parts that I specified to make this PC quiet and black.
The image produced by the combination of this PC, the ATI DVD player, and my projector is really nice. It is so much better than what we have had before, there is no comparison. I'm still getting things configured and trying out new software. My favorites so far are dScaler and WinAmp with Geiss. dScaler takes a normal video signal and deinterlaces it and scales it for a big screen. Even ordinary TV looks much better. WinAmp is a popular MP3 player, but when combined with Geiss visualization, it really comes alive.
Since I still don't have the parts I need for my NEC XG-1100, I'm not able to try out the PC with it, but I am expecting even better video from it. The XG-1100 is an 8" tube projector which is capable of higher practical resolution than my 7" GP-3000.
The delayed projector parts will pretty soon become the bottleneck in getting things completed. Well, that and finding seating for a reasonable price...
